flawed perfection

Gardening is sort of like the world in a way. There will always be weeds, no matter how many we pull out. The least I can do is make sure that there aren’t too many.

today! in the morning i felt damn sleepy and melancholy. dun ask me why 'cos i dun really know the reason too. went for mass, but the sermon was characteristically uninspiring. somehow, i found that the sermons from christian churches seem to be more interesting and relevant from my past trips to churches around singapore. repeating cliche and overused teachings isn't very exciting in my opinion.

ANW! went home to rush my pw script before cabbing to ame's house. lol pw meeting was damn funny. full of nonsense and laughter. somehow my old habit of laughing like mad before a speech resurfaced! xD so i had to laugh and laugh until the laughing bug went away before i could start speaking. hahaha better not be like that during dry run tomorrow! else ggxx xD

i think too little time to perfect our presentation. tmr's one at dry run confirm damn different from the final one. haha oh well.

actually today i thought of a lot of stuff while i was in my brooding mood this morning. the theme centered around flaws and perfection. flaws are quintessential of Man - after all our decisions are based on preferences and imperfect information. flaws exist everywhere - in the school system (classes are too fragmented), council (not bonded enough), scouts (upcoming batches of scouts losing loyalty) to name a few. however, i think flaws are important and essential - in a way, they provide us with opportunities to correct them. these opportunities weed out the committed and the uncommitted, the passionate and the passive, the loyal and the liar. for he who makes good his promises, satisfy the base requirements of his job scope, and extends himself out of his demarcated boundaries, is a worthy friend indeed.

nothing can be perfect. instead, i think perfection isn't really that good a state to be in - it will only breed complacency and encourage false security. in a twist of irony, i believe that the flawed state in which all of us live in and always striving to improve is actually the 'perfect' position to be in. flawed perfection. flawed, yet perfect.

a story i've come across is similar in illustrating the aforementioned point.
it's called The Broken Pot.
A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.

At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water to his house.

Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do.

After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologize to you. I have been able to deliver only half my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house. Because of my flaws, you have to do a lot of this work, and you don't get full value from your efforts," the pot said.

The bearer said to the pot, "Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, and I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you've watered them.

For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house."

Moral
Each of us has our own unique flaws. We're all cracked pots. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding.
nice. i love stories. =)
underneath the simplistic facade of a children tale lies deep and profound meanings that often provide us with inspiration and ideas. haha but i love novels and series of story with a linked plot the best.
