19 April 2008

days run into nights, and the dusk collides with dawn. the resultant blinding effulgence blurs the edges of memories, and consciousness is struck into oblivion. it's saturday already, but the past week seems vague and unreachable. i guess it's the overhanging fatigue that was introduced from council camp, compounded by napfa on monday, and exacerbated throughout the week by a distinct lack of sleep. hmm. seems like council work is starting to peak now as we race towards the end line of our scintillating journey, and anxiety and excitement run through us, tinged with looming sadness that seems to grow as we near the end.

now i seem able to recall something of the past week. tuesday was induction with the 28ths. wednesday was council orientation and guitar concert. friday was rock concert. haha our friends seem to have mastered the art of guilt-tripping: with hoards of people descending requests to watch them in their concerts, we feel obliged to go and support them, and the fact that it's our last year only makes it more important to do so.

i remember thinking something about the mrt's video to increase awareness of terrorists. i think the mrt stations shld stop viewing these videos - instead of heightening our awareness of these 'suspicious-looking' terrorists, it is instead plunging us into a false sense of security. what do i mean? by now, any 3-year-old can identify a-man-wearing-a-cap-trying-to-cover-his-face-after-leaving-behind-a-bulky-object-that-resembles-a-bomb as a terrorist. but is that the true description of our amorphous enemy? common sense should prevail and inform us that our enemies will not be so silly as to match the description of the man shown on the screen. in fact, they will most probably look like any other ordinary guy on the streets carrying a normal knapsack with a bomb that is small, but powerful enough to be lethal. technology is fast-changing, and we should be mindful of the adaptation skills the terrorists have. but i guess it's the best the video creators could do - after all, displaying a video that says 'the terrorist could be anyone - it could be you. it could be me.' will only spread a diseased cloud of fear and suspicion over our society.

and that wouldn't be nice, would it?

p.s. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TIDDY!
