Alright, so I started on History today. Reading through my notes on the Indo-Pak war over Kashmir, I am rather confused about the decisions made by many leaders at crucial junctions that could potentially reverse the initial course towards a collision of ideals. Kashmir was, from the onset, predominantly Muslim (77%) and the contemptuous attitude New Delhi's politicians have towards princely leaders helped to nudge Kashmir towards Pakistan. But somehow, despite knowing that they have a slight advantage over their counterpart, Pakistan did not seem to have done much to encourage a modus vivendi between them and Kashmir.
Of course, looking back at the history of conflict with the aid of hindsight might give me more leverage in understanding, and we should take into account that the situation then might be different. Add to the fact that I am a foreigner to the conflict, and thus there are sentiments, historical animosities and other intangibles unfelt and unseen. Sometimes, the spaces between the words tell us more than what the words can be interpreted.
In many ways, this situation emulates how our life works. We so often make assumptions without first considering the context, and so often we don't notice the undercurrents passing underneath us.
There are times when I look back at the various watersheds of my life and wished I could have done something differently, something better, or perhaps something special. haha but after thinking it through, I don't think I would have changed anything if I had the opportunity to time travel. Every mistake, every moment and every nuance of the past is like a mirror reflecting the light that allow these little luminous particles to coalesce into my present self. And I can't, or rather don't wish to, imagine myself as a different person.
So you sailed away
Into a grey sky morning
Now I'm here to stay
Love can be so boring
