Dear Diary,
Deep down inside, I guess I have always acknowledged the fact that there is a limit to what a person can do for others, for another. The same actions and sentiments can get translated into diverging definitions for different individuals, and in a way, it is similar to sending a single ray of white light through a prism, resulting in a scattering of colours.
Everyone lives life with a unique set of values, codes and principles that is in a constant flux as our patterns of interaction with life continue to change, adapt and evolve. These values, codes and principles coalesce to form the invisible lenses through which we view the world. Hence, I guess it should not come as a surprise that responses to the same things can come across so differently, with some embracing it and others rejecting it, and the lukewarm sandwiched in between the two extremes. And sometimes, it feels like it isn't the negative extremes that hurt the most.
As we stumble and falter in this walk of life, searching for answers that elude us, looking for meaning where there isn't, we are constantly disappointed in ourselves and in others. But I guess that's why life is so fascinating, isn't it? This process of discovery, of loss, and of re-discovery, it truly reminds us of the elements of predictablity (the lack thereof) and precipitousness that are played out as constant themes as they enrich and entertain our lives.
Essentially, life is not about reaching the peak of the majestic waterfall, but in the way we wade past the raging stream of failures, disappointments and obstacles to reach it.
We need to learn when to draw the line between pragmatism and idealism, and perhaps the issue lies not in where we should draw the line, but rather how we should draw it.
