This journey is continuous.
It has always been. We started out not knowing what the future will entail, and this curiosity has left us wanting for more. We tell ourselves that we will finally have a break from everything, and are finally able to pursue our interests, only to have something else crop up. That something happens to be more urgent, happens to be more important, and there we go again, on to our next quest in the never-ending pitstops along this journey.
We convince ourselves that it is imperative, that it is important for us to make productive of this limited time we have while we are young. We rationalize that it would be a good opportunity, especially at our age, to fill ourselves up with qualifications and testimonies of our capabilities.
We jump from one thing to another, always fleeting, always making it the priority of our lives. Of course, these things determine our lives. They fix the course of what will be in the coming future. They pave the way for a better life ahead. They help us fulfil our desires. Yup, that's what we are told.
And that's what we believe. We consume all this partial information one-sidedly. We think we are thinking independently, but perhaps we are just puppets on the stage, controlled by puppet masters who are not acting independently as well. The world is a stage, and we are the actors and actresses living out the play.
Perhaps some things aren't really that important. Maybe 'important' isn't the right word to use. I guess some things aren't really that urgent. Yea, that sounds more like it. In this unilateral collision against time, where we are constantly pushed from one thing to another without space to gather our breath, we easily confuse the urgent and the important.
The two may not be mutually exclusive, but often, they represent separate and distinct entities. It takes a little time, a little patience, and a great amount of effort in setting one's priorities to differentiate the two. Sometimes, we may not even be clear of our decisions.
While others affirm their choices with the consequential success, there are also others who uses happiness as a litmus test. Make your choice and stick with it. Sometimes, one can lead to the other; but that's not always the case. Success is fleeting. Happiness is temporary. So what's the X-factor that brings meaning into this journey?
This journey is continuous.
But even so, the choice between making every turn of the journey into treasured memorabilia to be kept within the safety of these red velvet folds or not is always up to us.
