highlights!

i don't know where to begin. sometimes, this adventure, this scintillating and memorable journey, it all seems so surreal. looking back, it all started with indecision - which subcommittee of orientation to immerse myself into. was it to be games, the area where i'm most familiar and experienced with, after so many years of organizing similar events in scouts? or perhaps song and dance, something relaxing and practical, fun and enjoyable? but in the end, i chose highlights. why? i don't really know. was it because of the people who will be joining it? maybe. but then again, i didn't really know of many others who were signing up for it at that time. seems strange, but i guess i like the novelty of trying out something different.

what makes highlights such a special and unforgettable time is the people - the friends and companions that made it all so... extraordinary. haha i think it goes beyond 'extraordinary', but i guess the dictionary is too small to encompass a word that can even begin to describe it.

true, there are many councillors in highlights, so perhaps it could be one of the reasons why we gelled so well together. but i think it's just a minor part. i believe it is the collective willingness of everyone, non-councillors and councillors alike, to go crazy and hardcore together, to give our fullest, and to live our ambitions with the right work ethic, that defines these remarkable memories. haha i doubt many people actually know the full extent of what highlights is preparing, has prepared and will be preparing. mmm and it's all a surprise, waiting to be revealed when the time comes!

highlights has been tiring, crazy, mind-numbling and sometimes overworked. but it was worth it. it has brought many of us closer together, especially councillors. even after seeing each other for so many months, greeting each other for half a year, it's amazing how little we know of one another until we have had the opportunity to work together, and really open up to one another.

there is so much to remember about highlights - if only i could have a pensieve to store these memories, to relieve these moments and feel, perhaps even see, the intangible emotions reaching out and touching other threads of similar sentiments, anytime i want.

to the highlighters i have been working closely with - wanjoo, ye wei, lynette, giraffe, aaron, zhiying, joel, jevon, karen, ivan, sabby, evona, warren - IT'S BEEN REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY NICE AND FUN WORKING WITH YOU GUYS! everyone is different, yet we are so similar at the same time. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee i think without any one of you, highlights would have been less splendid, less exciting, less colourful. =)

i hope i will get to know all highlighters beyond the superficiality of companionship and truly breach the walls of passivity that often stall us from reaching true friendship.

and this post i dedicate to highlights 2008, the bestEST comm ever!
