to cross, or not to cross? here at the crossroads, plagued by indecision and uncertainty. i moved a hesitant foot forward. it was followed by the beating of two hasty steps backwards. laws and boundaries, they shackle and stem the flow of cognitive processes.
i couldn't decide.
the bus arrived at the traffic light across the street, awaiting the signal to proceed forth to its destination, the bus stop.
safety or opportunity? the internal debate continued unabated.
red turned to orange. orange turned to green.
i remained rooted to the ground, bounded by the rigid demography of the landscape, not willing to take the risk, not daring to oppose the conventions that govern our lives.
the bus drove past me, leaving a trail of wispy smoke that traced the shape of transient chances, as if in mock demonstrations.
it was gone.
it was gone.
time and again, as if timed to never gain.
an ordinary event bearing extraordinary significance. it seems as if this is just a mimicry of life and such is the similarity that we can draw striking parallels to it. don't you agree that we often wait too long before acting, and time seems only too willing to rush past us, never waiting for our delayed decisions? we are afraid, and our fears paralyze us from moving forward. we are insecure, and we lack the courage to take the first step. our rational thinking informs us that we have nothing to worry about, but i guess some issues simply transcend the borders of rationality into irrationality.
every second we dwell on simply pulls the distance further apart, between us and our goals. we have been conditioned from young to accept the mantra of 'no risk, no gain', but it's not easy to translate idle words into actions.
haha ok i'm tired. juggling too many things at once wears down the body easily. sigh. but it's ok. classes are slowly becoming more fun. haha chinese chess sessions seem like a good bonding activity.
and i think i've fallen in love with let me take you there by plain white t's! =)
