Deep down inside, I have always harboured a deep dislike for the word 'nice', especially when it is used to describe a person. I mean, of all the billion of words available in the dictionary, why use the bland and boring 'nice'? Isn't there some other word that could describe the person more suitably?
Of course, 'nice' has certainly those positive connotations and stuff attached to it, but in actuality, I have always thought that when you describe someone as 'nice', it simply underscores your lack of understanding of the person. Essentially, everyone can be described as 'nice' in one way or another, no matter how 'bad' others may perceived him or her to be.
After all, how many times have you encountered your friends describing the not-very-nice traits of another person, before pausing to say, "Hmm... but XXX is actually quite nice..."? As long as that person has friends, he or she would have done something nice for his or her friends at some point of time. That's why 'nice' is such a universal word, and even using superlatives to describe the extent of 'nice-ness' doesn't really say much or anything about the person.
And what is the difference between 'as such' and 'therefore'? lol the marker of my essay circled the word 'as such' and commented that 'as such' isn't the same as 'therefore'. Checking the dictionaries has revealed that 'as such' seems to suggest a derivation from an intrinsic quality of something i.e. the toy is pink in colour, as such, girls like it more than guys. On the other hand, 'therefore' acts as a summation of previous points made, so it's sort of like the link before the concluding remark i.e. A teenager is between 13-19 years of age. A teenager watches movie. I am 18 and like watching movies, therefore I am a teenager. Hmmm am I right? I'm looking for someone who can clarify the nuances between these two words.

I think nice means 2 things:
1)Average, and you say it not to upset anyone
2)You have nothing else to say
so as not to upset anyone, I mean
