1 MORE!

Physics was... sigh. Carelessness is a sign of inadequate preparations, period.

Anyway, I agree with Ye Wei when he said the council room felt empty without the sisters and their accompanying inanity (in a nice way, of course =)) And I can't imagine mugging in council area without the residential Yong Han, our 'neighbours' Sean and Hwee Leong, and of course, the Coks!

Just watched the Bleach Movie 2 and it was quite nice! Lots of action and a nice plot too, though the ending wasn't as well done as the introduction. There was this line in the movie that goes like this:

It's quite impossible for one person to completely understand another. But when you don't know, though it takes effort, all you actually have to do is inquire. It's just that simple, isn't it?

Not exactly. The first step is always the hardest.

Seems like Mandy was right when she said watching shows leave you feeling warm and fuzzy (: And I can't wait for weekends! Class outing and more to come.
The little boy had been wandering in the town for a few days, yet not once did he see the little girl. He sighed. Perhaps it was not meant to be. Just as he was about to turn, he saw her. His eyes widened. His feet was poised, ready to sprint over. But she turned in his direction. His eyes contracted. The stranger smiled at him. He broke into a weary smile. A little gesture can go a long way.

2.

The boy stood outside his house and stared at the long stretch of road before him with tears streaming down his eyes, cutting a desolate figure in the waning light of the sunset. Clenched tightly in his fist is a piece of crushed yellow paper, wrinkled as if the reader had repeatedly opened it and crushed it, opened it and crushed it...

Goodbye, my dearest friend.
Please forgive me.
Econs was nothing spectacular other than the fact that the Budget 2008 did in fact come out. haha but fate seems cruel for I only had time to read through the 5 planks of economic measures taken by our government to remove imported inflation and reduce general inflation... which did not appear. mmm but it was fun knowing about it. I think the reason why I like Economics so much is because there are many terms in the subject which can manifest as very apt metaphors to describe our daily lives. In fact, apart from its versatile nature in wordplay (oh btw this song by Jason Mraz is also quite nice!), it is extremely relevant in our lives. Things like inflation and unemployment... very soon we will be the one directly affected by them. Right now, I guess most of us are still shielded by the safety net the school and our family have cast over us, and I doubt any of us really know how it feels like to enter the real world.

ok I need to stop slacking.

3 March 2008

the little boy was lying on the grass watching the ants when the little girl asked him.
"why did you smile when that naughty boy poked fun at you?"
the boy stopped watching the ants. he turned to face the sky before replying,
"it's easier to smile than to lie."
he paused for a while before adding,
"and it's easier to lie than to say the truth."
the morning was bad, but it got better as the day wears on.
learning cantonese with classmates was fun =)
musicfeste was nice
bb got 2nd!
bittersweet
good cos it's a good result
bad cos my vision of FIRST FOR FIVE has just been dashed

with time, even diamond turns to dust.

everything
will be
ok.

dramafeste

the little boy and little girl were lying on the grass staring into the night sky.
"you didn't talk much today," the little girl turned to the little boy, breaking the silence.
there was no reply.
"you are thinking of something."
the little girl was about to go on to say something when the boy finally replied, still looking up at the stars.
"i wish the stars won't ever go away."
the girl did not say anything for a while.
finally, she whispered.
"do you know... the stars never really leave us in the day."
the little boy turned to her, curious.
"the stars still shine. but the sun shines brighter."
the little boy nodded thoughtfully.
"i guess it's just hard to notice something you can't see."
dramafeste! went for both nights to support BB! the plays were all quite interesting, though i felt the themes were not as broad as compared to the previous year.

haha i like talkative people. when i don't feel like talking, they keep my ears busy.

i think i need an antidote for this fatigue, fashioned by circumstances, enforced by ill-discipline. oh well.

her mark on his heart was never meant to be,
for the pallid beach of his heart,
with its merciless and unending waves,
which swelled and crashed, swelled and crashed,
will slowly wash away the footprints on the shore,
erasing all remnants of fleeting memories.

busybee

the little girl asked the little boy one day,
"hey... will you miss the winter when it is gone?"
the little boy shook his head.
"hmmm... but will you ever forget the summer?"
again, the little boy shook his head.
"i think, it's the same with us. some people make others feel special..."
"... and we will always remember them when they are gone." the little boy continued.
the little girl smiled and nodded her head.
busy busy busy! next week promises to be a fun-filled and crazy week indeed! orientation two, dramafeste and bridge, so many birthdays, welfare grassroots meeting... hahaha exciting =)

sigh, but the irritating essays have created a lot of backlog for my other subjects. i think i need to squeeze in more time for them. if only we could have 25h a day! oh well, wistful fantasies aside, it's already week 7! less than a month to go before CT 1! depressing thought ><

anyway, here are some nice songs from mcfly that i current like a lottttttttttt!
five colors in her hair

the little boy: explained

"why is it easier to talk to some people more than others?" the little boy asked the little girl one day.
the girl paused to think about the question, before answering,
"i think it's because these people listen with their ears, while others listen with their mouths."
hahaha i think teenagers these days have been so saturated with ideals of romance and notions of love that they tend to filter everything they observe through these rose-tinted prism of theirs. simple stories of friendship, understanding, creativity among other values have been misconstrued to be a signal of one's craving for love and attention. such a severe misunderstanding indeed!

to be honest, 'the little boy' stories are embedded with different meanings, constructed to convey certain values, and fashioned in varying contexts. as such, while one may be inclined to associate all of them with 'love', a term which many people assume they understand very well, it is simply too sweeping a generalisation to make.

i am a complex person, and a complicated person needs a labyrinthine medium to express his sophisticated thoughts =D haha and since it's too time-consuming to write poems all the time, what better way is there than to illustrate these musings in a story? haha ya so it's that simple really =)

mmm but i must admit, love is an interesting topic, especially when discussed among people who have had no prior experience! just thinking of the random theories and comical dialogues i've had with friends makes me feel like laughing out loud xD yes yes bachelor scouties have the funniest ideas and the things they do to in the name of love are equally intriguing and amusing. sometimes no balls, sometime too bold, in the end ggxxed. haha oh well.

and my bro has some weird theory that guys who do not get attached by jc are gays. oh man, won't that make the population of Singapore full of gays? =S

let's take lit. because life is tough.

cny

the little boy and little girl were watching a movie.
"why are they holding hands?" the little boy pointed to the screen and asked.
"well, when two people are in love, they hold hands," the little girl answered.

the little boy thought about it for a while before his eyes widened, and he said,
"i held your hand in school."

the little girl laughed and replied,
"that's called friendship,"

"but how will i ever know the difference?" little boy asked, feeling confused.
the little girl giggled and said,
"you just will."
chinese new year has been relatively uneventful. the usual visitations, resting at home and playing. nothing different. but i guess the 5-day break came at a right time, what with ihc dota coming up and deadlines for history essays approaching.

my mugging momentum came to a halt last week as the competitive gaming streak kicked in. just hope once interhouse and interschool dota competitions are both over i can gain it back again.

j2 life is pretty dull. there's the usual council work to keep me occupied. in addition, once match supports and ihcs are introduced, i will barely have enough time for revision and rest. but other than that, it's mainly studies. studies studies studies. the arduous quest towards the ultimate goal for 5As.

seniors tell us that there's nothing we can do to change the situation. we need to mug for it. period. and mugging is intensely mundane. it's not boring. it can get interesting or even fun at random intervals, but these moments are few and fleeting. and so it's mundane. ritual. mechanical.

oh well... maybe i should look for mugging partners.
maybe not.

orientation blues. i think i'm slowly acclimatizing to j2 mugging life, gradually letting go of the fantasy of orientation. life goes on, it's time to stop looking back.

it's times like these that make you wonder more about your life and the destiny that awaits. there is so much more we can do, but there is also so much more we won't be doing too. in economics we learn about making choices - of how making a decision will always involve sacrifices. life's about the same. only we won't know what these sacrifices are.

so show me the northern star tonight,
and may this direction lead me to light.

missing

the little boy and girl were in the classroom, staring out of the window at the thunderstorm.
"why are you so sad?" the girl asked.
the boy paused for a long time before replying,
"will the sun ever shine again?"
the girl smiled, took the boy's hands and placed it over his heart.
"i think the sun will never stop shining here."

i miss oprep...
orientation...
and most of all...
HIGHLIGHTS!

=(

school is sian.

3 February 2008

the little boy and little girl were lying on the grass watching the sky.
tired, the little boy soon drifted to sleep.
when he woke up, he realised there was something on his nose.
it was a flower.
the little boy looked around.
the little girl was not there anymore.
instead, there was a piece of paper beside him.
it read,
"hope the smell of the flower gave you sweet dreams."
the boy lay on the ground. he brought the flower to his nose and sniffed it.
a contented smile could be seen as he fell asleep again.

SYMPOSIUM...

the little boy had to write lines as punishment.

concentrating hard, he almost did not see the note that was slid under the door.

he went over and picked it up.

drawn on the note was a sad smiley face.

the little boy smiled.

two lines and a curve had just made his day.
WAS GREAT! hahaha it was very enriching and insightful, and really allowed us to get a better grasp of the student councils from jcs like nyjc, njc, pjc, vjc and hcjc, as well as gain greater perspective. most importantly, we learnt a lot of good practices by other councils that can really help our council become more efficient, disciplined and united =D

LIKE fining people late for meetings $4 with additional 10 cents for every minute late. imba? cheo will totally become bankrupt.

the size of other councils really begs the question whether our council is too large. mmm but that would be something to discuss another day.

oh we saw the mass dances of other councils too! very nice and entertaining. hahaha it was truly the highlight of the day, watching the performances. but of course, it couldn't be compared to the ideas and perspectives gained today. =D

all in all, students' council symposium rawked! hahaha and here are some of the designs created for scs =)

1 February 2008

symposium!

the little boy was dozing off in class when he was called by the teacher to answer a question.

"well, what's this fruit?" asked the teacher.

the little girl who was sitting beside him softly whispered the answer to him.

"apples?"

"wrong. for punishment, go back and..."

after class, he asked the little girl why she told him 'apples' when the answer was 'oranges'.

and the girl smiled and replied,
"i think we learn more from making mistakes. you won't mistake an orange for an apple anymore."
hahaha a few more hours to go! it will be quite interesting to find out the practices of other councils.

i think i'm quite lost in econs and history. need time to internalise the info. oh well, guess the coming holidays will be spent holed up in my room trying to strike a chord with these unresponsive subjects.

and never.
never.
ever.
never.
ever.
laissez faire.
my fren.

and i never knew it could be so easy. =)

31 January 2008

urgent vs important

the little boy and girl were lying on the grass, staring into the blue sky.
"i think you are actually a very noisy person," the girl said.
the boy looked at her, startled and surprised.
"you just choose to be quiet so others can fill up the silence."
the boy shared a little smile with the girl, before saying,
"are you sure we haven't met before?"
i think i like to prioritise the urgent over the important. and many others seemed to have fallen into the same trap as i have. too often, we fool ourselves into believing that the things we do, perhaps answering smses or emails we have just received, are important, and thus we spend time on it. we fail to see the greater picture that depicts our lives as we journey towards greater uncertainty, as a future that is all so gray looms before us.

over the years, influenced by the urgency conveyed by the immediate and mobile media governing our lives, we have grown to equate urgent as important, and got our priorities all wrong. urgent has become synonymous with the now, and by completing these urgent matters that may not be so important first, we find ourselves running a losing race against time. our time is runnnnnnnnnnnnnning out...

governed by technology and losing sovereignty of our very own lives to the tyranny of the urgent, we slowly become more myopic towards the bigger issues in life. the lens from which we view the world have become distorted and blurred, and our priorities seem ever less clear to us. what do we do?

and so, i have been learning how to say 'no' to the urgents, and teaching myself the courage to say 'yes' to the importants of my life. =)

a thousand mile journey begins with a step.
but would you have the courage to move your feet?

30 January 2008

the little boy

the boy sat in the classroom alone, feeling sad.
a stranger entered the classroom.
she passed him a drawing and went out of the classroom.
the boy saw the drawing, and a smile crept up his face.
on the drawing, there were two figures holding hands.
and she wrote, "let's be friends."
